The Reading Movement’s Reading Break

Every child deserves a good start in life, and being able to read is one of the keys. Reading skills are nurtured through storytime reading, which can never begin too early. Alfie Atkins Cultural Center frequently offers storytime sessions, connecting to the Reading movement’s “Reading Break” initiative and Gothenburg’s campaign, The City Where We Read to Our Children.

Don’t miss Gunilla Bergström’s studio

Have you seen our permanent exhibition about Gunilla Bergström, “G as in Gunilla”? We’ve recreated parts of her studio with original furnishings, work materials, sketches, awards, and curiosities that offer a glimpse into her artistry.

Gunilla Bergström (1942–2021), born and raised in Gothenburg, was the illustrator and author behind the beloved stories of Alfie Atkins—now a classic enjoyed by millions of children across many countries.

Collaboration behind the exhibition

“G as in Gunilla” was made possible through a collaboration between Alfie Atkins’ Cultural Center, Barnutställningar AB, and Bok-Makaren AB, with support from the Swedish Arts Council.

“Gunilla had so much energy. Her entire studio reflected this energy, curiosity, humor, and creative joy, which we hope will inspire both children and adults who visit the center,” says Sofia Torell of Bok-Makaren AB and niece of Gunilla Bergström.
